Le Caire au printemps

During the month of May Cairo will be twinned with Paris and will host the Les Français aiment le Caire festival which will comprise exhibitions -- mostly photographic --on, and lectures about, the city of Cairo, as well as concerts and book launches -- to be held in diverse venues and areas of the city, many of which have been undergoing restoration in recent years: the Al-Fustat area, the oldest part of the city, to medieval Cairo with its various beits (houses), to Khedival-to-1940s Downtown Cairo... to spaces (including underground metro stations) constructed in the past decades. The festival, the honorary presidents of which are Kamel Zoheiri and André Raymond, is organised by the CFCC (Centre Français de Culture et de Coopération), under the direction of Danièle Wozny and Damien Cristofari, and the patronage of Abdel-Rehim Shehata, governor of Cairo and Bertrand Delanoe, mayor of Paris, François Dopffer, ambassador of France in Cairo, and Aly Maher El-Sayed, ambassador of Egypt in Paris, and in collaboration with various Egyptian and French governmental bodies, including Egypt's ministries of culture, tourism, housing and transport as well as numerous Egyptian and French architectural and academic institutions
