GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE: At the Hanager Arts Centre, Opera House Grounds, an exhibition of oil paintings, water colours and drawings by the Swiss artist and Egyptian resident Margo Veillon opened yesterday, and will continue until 10 May.

A retrospective organised by the American University in Cairo, the exhibition encompasses the period 1966-2001, offering many and various examples of Veillon's passion for painting from life, together with a convenient précis of her many and varied formal concerns.

The exhibition amply demonstrates not only the intimacy of the artist's observation but the vast number of techniques Veillon has explored across several decades. It is a curiosity and adventurousness of spirit that has remained constant throughout Veillon's long and distinguished career, allowing the artists to constantly renew her dialogue not only with the canvas, but with the land in which she chooses to live.
