TIME COLLAPSED: On Tuesday, 34 years had passed since the 1967 War, during which Israel occupied Gaza and the West Bank; but it seems as if that moment had stretched on endlessly in time, and resonates yet today. A Palestinian boy in Ramallah leans on a poster showing civilians under fire, over three decades ago; just below him, the same scene was being played out as the Israeli occupation forces continued to besiege the population. The date of 5 June remains inextricably linked with the loss of large parts of Palestine and, as history repeats itself over and over -- as tragedy, as farce, as tragedy once more -- it seems difficult not to despair. Still, the resistance continues. Memories of past dispossession and the experience of on-going oppression and expropriation could serve to justify submission; instead, they fuel the Palestinians' determination to exist
