The body of Soad Hosni, Egyptian cinema's best loved star, was expected to arrive in Cairo last night after a British coroner's court established that there were no suspicious circumstances behind her death.Although here she appears in a sad scene from The Lovers' Crying Place, Hosni was also known for her glowing smile and irrepressible joie de vivre. Her name was often linked to that of adulated singer Abdel-Halim Hafez, if only in their fans' dreams of an ideal match between two icons; was it a poignant coincidence that the day of her death was also that of his birthday?
A Cairo funeral is planned for today.
