Egyptian anger
IN the course of a telephone call he received on Tuesday from Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres, President Hosni Mubarak expressed displeasure with Israel's policy of using military force against the Palestinians. This policy will not lead to peace and will not realise security for Israeli citizens, President Mubarak said.Mubarak stressed the importance of an immediate resumption of Palestinian-Israeli negotiations and the cessation of violence in line with the recommendations of the Mitchell committee. Mubarak noted that these recommendations clearly outline the required confidence-building measures that would "allow for the negotiations to proceed along the course charted for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state at the nearest possible opportunity."
