Palestine in books
Sir-- Given your paper's and this supplement's commitment to the Palestinian cause (evidenced by the extensive and thorough coverage of the ongoing Al-Aqsa Intifada), I was surprised to note that the last issue of the Books Supplement did not devote enough space or attention to the Intifada, which celebrated its first anniversary in September.
It would have been beneficial, for example, to acquaint your readers with recent Palestinian literary and scholarly output. Has the Al-Aqsa Intifada produced inspiring and original literary material? Has the Intifada prompted political analysts to review their positions on the Oslo Accords?
I look forward to more reviews of Palestinian books in your next issues.

Religious dialogue
Sir -- I would like to draw your attention to a recently published work, Beyond Diversities: Reflections on Revelations, co-written by three Egyptian Muslim authors Ali, Aliaa and Aisha Rafea, who are the children of Master Rafea (1903-1970), a Sufi whose life was an expression of love to all humanity.
In the book the authors argue that man, when placed in an appropriate environment, can learn to appreciate his spiritual side. Spiritual awareness, they write, can help to save humanity from conflict, since conflict is often the result of an ignorance of spiritual truth.
The core mission of all revelation, the authors go on to argue, is to reveal to man such spiritual truth and to guide him such that he may live in accordance with it. Alas, revelation itself has sometimes been misunderstood, misused, distorted, or overlooked. Nevertheless, the four volumes of this work should help interested readers to explore the idea of religious dialogue in depth and to attain a deeper appreciation of the idea of spiritual truth.
