Also on Tuesday, she toured the work site of the new Maadi Library established by the Integrated Care Society. The new library is expected to be a state-of-the-art cultural and educational facility.
On Monday, Mrs Mubarak attended a meeting of the technical advisory committee of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood which she heads. Members of the committee discussed a new national programme for eradicating child labour. The plan aims to introduce income-generating activities for low-income families that would help keep their children off the streets, as well as provide monthly financial support to those families.
Last Thursday, Mrs Mubarak inaugurated the Luxor International Hospital -- a new medical facility intended to serve low-income families who have long been deprived of high-quality medical care.
The LE138 million four-storey hospital includes 468 beds and employs a world class medical team.
On the same day, Mrs Mubarak, head of the National Council for Women (NCW), met with the new members of the Luxor branch of the council. Stressing the importance of the support extended by governors to the council's branches across the country's governorates, Mrs Mubarak said the aim of these branches was to study women's problems and suggest plans and activities to solve them.
"The recent events the world has witnessed call upon women's efforts in reinforcing the values of tolerance and co-existence and in highlighting the fact that Egyptian society represents one harmonious, loving fabric that rejects fanaticism," she said.
