Wadie Kirolos
IT IS with great sadness that we must report the death, on Monday, of Wadie Kirolos, Al-Ahram Weekly's assistant editor- in-chief and, since the inception of the paper, the editor of the Weekly's home pages.
He first joined UPI in 1966, the beginning of a lifelong career devoted to the practice of journalism. For more than a decade Wadie was instrumental in shaping this paper's coverage of domestic news, and in determining the shape of the front page, the measures by which, in the end, any newspaper will be judged.
His work at the Weekly lay at the core of the paper's identity and his death, at the age of 59, comes as an enormous blow, to his colleagues, naturally, but also to the smooth running of the paper's most important department. He will be sorely missed.
