Four in the running

FOUR Egyptian clubs were given relatively easy runs as the African draw for the continent's three major club football championships were announced.

In the African Confederation Cup, Misri, which came in third last year in the league, will face Kenya's Mathare Utd in the first leg match to be played on either 8 or 10 March. The second leg will be played on either 22 or 24 March. If Misri win, they will meet the winner of Zambia's Kabwe Warriors and Botswana's Defence Force in April.

In the African Champions League, league winners Zamalek will play the winner of Rwanda's Patriotic Army and Eritrea's Hintsa. Newly-crowned Ahli will face the winner of Ethiopia's Electricity and Kenya's Oserian Fastac.

In the African Cup Winners Cup, Baladiyet Mehalla will face Uganda's Express in the first round.

The draw, held in Cairo on Saturday, was attended by Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Eissa Hayatou.

The CAF also decided to leave the door open until 31 March for countries bidding for the 2006 African Nations Cup. The name of the host country will be announced in September.

The CAF advanced the Super Cup to 15 March instead of February. It will be played in Cairo Stadium between Cup Winners Cup champions Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa and Champions League victors Ahli.
