Piece of the month
![]()
PADIAMUN-Nenesuttawy, priest of Amun-Re, overseer of the priests of Sekhmet, scribe of the god's books, is the subject of the statue given pride of place as Cairo Museum's "Piece of the month" for February, writes Nevine El-Aref. The statue, found at Bishbish in the western Delta near Sais, is carved in greywacke and is believed to date from the 25th dynasty.
The statue's distinctive features are its dress: a long pleated skirt knotted just below the breast and a separate, draped fabric which goes from under one of the forearms to the other after crossing behind the back. An epaulette rests on the left shoulder attached to a bulky necklace by thin threads; and two tall feathers are on either side of the priest's shaven head. "The rounded face and the nose flanked by prominent folds point to a Kushite style," says Egyptian Museum director-general Mamdouh El-Damati.
