Daniel Pearl

Though he reached his height of fame in his most awful hour, Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl was in a profession that can often be as dangerous, if not more so, than a soldier's. Since his abduction in Karachi last month, his image has haunted newspapers and television screens, but I show him here without the impish twinkle he flashed in better times. Rather, he will remain in our minds more resolute, an image of a man who made the ultimate sacrifice.
