Sosostris

Pack of Cards

By Madame Sosostris

What a wonderful week it has been for all of us music lovers. My dears, this event was something to be a part of. Last Tuesday, Sony Music held its first and only listening reception in the Middle East for Celine Dion's new album, A New Day Has Come, in the popular Sangria.

Sony Music superstar Celine Dion will release the album on 25 March, 2002 internationally, and 26 March, 2002 in North America. It is the singer's first release since her two year hiatus. This is also her first studio album since 1997's, Let's Talk About Love, which has sold 28 million copies worldwide.

The first single is the title track, "A New Day Has Come." It was written by Aldo Nova and Stephan Moccio, and produced by longtime Dion collaborator Walter Afanasieff and Nova. The album will feature songs produced by Guy Roche, Christopher Neil, Robert John "Mutt" Lange, Ric Wake, Anders Bagge, Kristian Lundin, Gérald De Palmas, Peer Astrom, and Humberto Gatica, among others. Dion fans will be swept away by the singer's renditions of the Etta James classic, "At Last" and Nat King Cole's " Nature Boy."

Oh, my dears, this new music-bang in Egypt is very exciting. I must have this album to add to my collection. As must you, my dears!

Darlings, it was with great pleasure that the Pharaonic Village welcomed Tunisian Prime Minister Mohamed El-Ghenoshey last week. Along with the village's CEO Abdel-Salam Ragab, the prime minister toured the village in awe. You can't blame him, my dears, as it is the only place in Egypt which offers the entire history of the nation in simple, yet intricately visual, form.

I was so happy to hear the news. My dear friend Minister of Culture Farouk Hosny inaugurated the spectacular sculpture exhibition by the talented Mohamed Rizk. The exhibit -- a Dialogue of Iron and Copper -- is taking place under the distinguished auspices of H.E. Cherif El-Shoubashy, first under- secretary of state for foreign cultural relations, on the premises of the Egyptian Centre for International Cultural Cooperation, at 11 Shagaret El-Dor Street, Zamalek. Darlings, it is something not to be missed.

My dears, it put a smile on my face when I heard the news about our dear friend and colleague George Bahgory. His new exhibition that displays 30 of the artist's works, describes the life of the Nile between the village, over the shores, and the ships, and the palms. It is currently showing in Amman, Jordan until the end of the month. I will be sure to fly off to Jordan for a weekend, as my dear friend's work brings me much joy and inspiration.
