The world is with you
Despite two weeks of terrorist aggression on the West Bank's cities, the Palestinian people have not raised the white flag.Besieged in Ramallah, Tulkarm, Nablus, Jenin, Qalqilya and Salfit, they have no food, water or medicine, but are still focused exclusively on ending Israel's occupation of their land. For 35 years, the Palestinians have tasted Israel's unbearable violence every day. They know full well that unless the occupation ends, Israel's crimes will be repeated, and their current suffering will only continue.
Morale has also been high, principally because of the global support they are receiving. The Palestinians know that they cannot count on world leaders, whether Arab, European or American, to save them from extermination. But they take heart from demonstrators demanding an end to Sharon's crimes in countries where the Palestinians never knew they had supporters.
Sharon's army is committing crimes against humanity in occupied West Bank cities, and that is why people all over the world are in the streets. US Secretary of State Colin Powell admitted in his news conference in Cairo on Tuesday that Israel has harmed long-term US interests in the region.
Several European nations are now considering a trade embargo against Israel; in Britain, a group of academics are calling for a boycott on Israeli universities; and every day sees renewed Arab protests. This solidarity is likely to prevail until Israeli aggression ends.
Even if Sharon's army has re-occupied the West Bank, destroyed the Palestinian streets and killed hundreds of innocent civilians, the war criminal will have to withdraw his troops. For 35 years, the Palestinians have withstood occupation while the world looked on; today, with global support, they may well throw it off.
