New Raya
LAST WEEK, a new addition to the telecom family was born when Raya Holdings launched a new subsidiary, Raya Telecom. Last year, Raya Holdings acquired a licence to build and operate a public data network across Egypt. It then established Raya Telecom with a paid capital of LE40 million and an authorised capital of LE100 million. According to Mohamed Fares, managing director of the new company, Raya Telecom already carries data for more than 60 companies in Egypt. It also plans to establish 68 sites across Egypt, covering major cities, by the end of 2002. According to Fares, Raya Telecom's network will also be expanded to accommodate "additional needs."
Among the services that Raya Telecom will offer are: private networks that will let the various branches of a company communicate and permanent Internet lines. Raya Telecom operates with a Cisco Systems network.
The new company will also represent British Telecom (BT) in Egypt. It will operate BT's site in the Ramses centrale, sell BT services and provide customer service to BT's clients.
Raya Holding was established in 1999.
