Radwan El-Kashef
FILMMAKER Radwan El- Kashef died yesterday morning after suffering a heart attack in his house in Nasr City. The director, whose latest film Al-Sahir (The Magician) is still screening, was only 48. While his untimely death was being mourned by friends and family in Cairo, El-Kashef's funeral took place in the afternoon of the same day in the village of Kom Ashqaw, Tama, his birthplace in Upper Egypt. From a vibrant and broad- ranging career El-Kashef's most remarkable achievements are the films Araq Al-Balah (Date Wine) and Leih Ya Banafseg (Violets are Blue).
