Century's best

DIEGO Maradona's second goal against England in the 1986 World Cup has been voted the goal of the century in a recent poll held by FIFAworldcup.com, the official Web site of the 2002 World Cup.

Over the past six weeks, FIFAworldcup.com has given fans the chance to vote online for the greatest goal ever scored in World Cup history. Using exclusive video footage from the FIFA archives, the unforgettable strike by Maradona (photo) came top of the list, winning the final knockout stage this week with 18,062 votes. England's Michael Owen followed closely in second with his effort in the 1998 finals against Argentina, edging the legendary Pele into third place.

Here are the top 10 goals in World Cup history, as voted for by fans from around the world:

"FIFA is proud to be able to offer the fans of the world online access to its vintage film and TV archives through innovative programmes such as the FIFA World Cup Goal of the Century," said Charles-Henry Contamine, head of the FIFA Internet. "It's truly great to see so many fans across the world making their voices heard by voting for Maradona's goal," Contamine added.
