HATS AND POTS:
While in Dakhla Oasis photographer Sherif Sonbol encountered these potters and basket makers selling their traditional water jars and palm-frond hats side by side. The broad-brimmed hats, shamasi, are worn by men working in the fields and are unique to Dakhla. Basket and palm-frond weaving in the oasis is performed predominantly by the men of the family. Also traditional are the men's blue galalib, dyed with locally-produced indigo.
