IMAGINING THE BOOK: Artists from Egypt and abroad are hosted by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in a group exhibition that not only explores the convention of the artists' book but, under the rubric above, deconstructs the objects in question. Eclectic, often amusing, and only occasionally pompous, the exhibition manages to avoid the bombast that all too frequently characterises large, official exhibitions, opting instead for a far more open-ended dissection of what might constitute the book. And if many of the Egyptian exhibits seem overly familiar, the foreign participation is likely to surprise. Above: Fumiko Shinkai (Japan) as photographed by Sally Hampson.
Imagining the Book, Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Centre, continues until 6 October.
