Homage to women's creativity
Mrs Suzanne Mubarak inaugurated the Conference on Arab Women and Creativity held at the Supreme Council for Culture from Saturday till yesterday, saying that Arab women have proven their creative ability in many fields over the years.
Click to view captionThis is the second pan-Arab women's conference organised by the SCC in three years; the first coincided with the centenary of the publication of reformer Qasim Amin's book Women's Liberation. This year's conference hosted some 150 academics, artists and writers from the Arab world and beyond.
The conference, Mrs Mubarak said, was able to bring to the fore a number of issues and provoke an Arab dialogue that is essential to our times. "I think that the choice of theme reflects a firm awareness of the value of creativity as a gateway to real development," Mrs Mubarak added. "It presents us with the opportunity to study the unique and influential contribution of exceptional women in various fields, whether it is politics, arts, literature, or social work."
In addition to the scholarly panels, the conference hosted roundtable discussions, testimonies, a film programme and an art exhibition.
The SCC published 15 new titles on the occasion of the conference.
