A smashing success
FOURTH-SEED Justine Henin overpowered Alexandra Stevenson 6-3, 6-0 in less than an hour to win the Generali Open in Austria on Sunday.
The 20-year-old Belgian was helped by an injury to Stevenson's groin, which hampered the American's movement and caused her to take a 10-minute injury break in the second set.
Henin's victory was the first of a good day for Belgian tennis, with Kim Clijsters later winning the Seat Open in Luxembourg.
Henin dominated the match from the start and raced into a 3-0 lead before Stevenson fought her way back to 3-2. Stevenson has played 16 matches in the last 21 days and her recurring groin problem was clearly troubling her. After fighting back to trail 3-2 she failed to win another game and by the end of the match she was unable to run.
Henin raced through the first set in 30 minutes and the second set was even quicker as the diminutive Belgian collected her second title of the year.
"I am very happy," Henin said. "I played a great tournament, I did my job and won. I hope she (Stevenson) is not that badly injured," she said sincerely, adding: "I will certainly come back next year. The crowd supported me all through the week, which I want to pay back."
In next week's new WTA rankings, Henin, who is currently rated eighth, will jump up to number four.
