A LARGE rally organised by the ruling National Democratic Party, the Muslim Brotherhood and the Tagammu Party took place after Friday prayers in the Islamic Cairo area near Al-Azhar Mosque last week.

The rally -- which drew some 15,000 anti-war protestors -- also featured an art exhibition and march organised by the Egyptian Association of Caricaturists. Participants displayed the work of 15 of Egypt's most famous caricaturists, including Mustafa Hussein, Al-Ahram Weekly's Gomaa Farahat, Samir Abdel-Khaliq, Amr Selim, Hani Shams, Hassan El-Masri, Mohamed Nadi, Mohamed Hakem, and Leila Fekri.

The protestors chanted slogans condemning US double standards in the Middle East, and called for a peaceful settlement of the Iraqi crisis, instead of the destruction and devastation of war.
