HUNDREDS of Coptic Christians attended the Easter mass service conducted by Pope Shenouda III early Sunday at Cairo's Abbasiya Cathedral. The lead up to Easter is marked by extended periods of fasting -- up to 55 days for the strictest Copts -- involving an abstinence from all meat or animal products. After the three-hour service, many worshippers gathered with family and friends, feasting on meats and sweets, and enjoying the holiday cheer.
