DEFENDING champions Ahli added the league volleyball title to their cup in an unprecedented season of double triumph, reports Abeer Anwar.

For Ahli it was the first time in their history to collect the league and cup titles in one season.

Ahli swept three consecutive sets from Zamalek to capture the league crown, the third time in as many weeks Ahli had downed their famed rival.

At Cairo Stadium's indoor hall on Friday Ahli took the first set, a tight 25-22. In the second, Ahli again prevailed but only slightly 25-23. By the third set it was apparent Zamalek had thrown in the towel, going down without a fight 25-12.

Maged Mustafa, Ahli's playmaker, was named best player of the match.

"We are very happy to collect both titles. It shows that Ahli's volleyball is always on top." Ahli coach Fouad Abdel-Salam said. Gabr Abdel-Ati of Zamalek was hardly on top of the world. "I did all I could but most of the players were either tired or injured and I had nobody else to work with."
