Margo Veillon, who died last week at the age of 97, was quite a prolific artist. Born in Cairo in 1907 to a Swiss father and an Austrian mother, she spent much of her career as a painter capturing images and movement of daily life in Egypt.

This book includes some of the artist's masterpieces, bequeathed to the American University in Cairo. Edited by Bruno Ronfard, the collection includes work from across the decades of her career and in a variety of media. The works are divided into nine chapters devoted to Paris, Egypt, desert, travels, global perspectives, still life, nocturnes, and portraits and self-portraits. A final section includes short essays by friends who are familiar with Veillon and her work: Gazbia Sirry, Jill Edwards, Charlotte Hug, Jill Kamel, Ann Radwan and John Rodenbeck.
