Ahli hire Oliviera

EGYPTIAN FA Cup champions Ahli have named Antonio Oliviera as their new head coach. Oliviera was sacked as Portugal's national team coach after a shock first round exit from the 2002 World Cup.

Back to the future

AFRICAN Cup Winner's Cup holders Widada Casablanca of Morocco have reappointed Rachid Taoussi as coach less than a year after firing him and bringing in Argentine Luis Oscar Fullone.

On the move

STRIKER Moumouni Dagano, whose goals helped Burkina Faso to qualify for the 2004 African Nations Cup, is poised to join French club Guingamp from RC Genk of Belgium.

ASEC through

TOP Cote D'Ivoir side ASEC squeezed into the cup semi-finals with a 1-0 victory over Daoukro. Bouafle and second division Issia Wozi also advanced to the penultimate stage.

Contonsport lead

FORMER Cameroon champions Contonsport Garoua beat lowly Tonnerre Yaunde 3-1 to maintain a two-point lead over holders Canon Yaoiunde with 10 rounds left in the title race.

Belgian coach quits

MICHEL DE WOLF, a former Belgian international, has resigned as coach of Gabon after a poor African Nations Cup qualifying campaign in which the Azingo Nationale lost four of its six matches.
