Al-Ahram Weekly apologises for a number of errors which occured in Samir Amin's article "WTO's recipe for world hunger" (issue 657, 25 Sept-1 October, p. 7)
In column 1, "20 thousand bushels of grain per capita of the world's population" should read: "20 thousand metric quintals (a metric quintal equals 100 kilogrammes) of grain per working farmer per year"; "three quarters of the world's malnourished rural" should read: "three quarters of the world's malnourished are rural"; "over the next five years" should read: "over the next fifty years."
In column 3, "Public equilibrium rates, to which conventional economists are always referring, are indicative" should read: "Public expenditure, are indicative."
In column 4, "flooding process in reverse, using cotton surpluses, for example, to compensate" should read: "flooding process in reverse, using cheap surpluses, to compensate."
In column 6, "without legal foundations" should read: "without solid foundations."
