El-Shoubashy is the first under-secretary for Foreign Cultural Relations, Ministry of Culture. He is also president of the Cairo International Film Festival. El-Shoubashy has worked as a radio and TV announcer, as a journalist in both Cairo and Paris, and written numerous books and plays. He headed the Al-Ahram press office for many years in France.
