POTS AND PANS: Beneath the waters of Abu Qir Bay, site of the inundated ancient port of Heracleion, archaeologists have discovered the remains of a sixth century BC workshop producing household and kitchen utensils, reports Nevine El-Aref. Bronze pots, chandeliers, plates, perfume containers, mirrors, spoons, incense burners, glasses and tweezers were among the objects found, alongside Ptolemaic life-size statues, busts and heads of Ancient Egyptian deities such as Isis, Anubis and Bastet, as well as a beautifully carved diorite statue of a bearded figure.
