Horoscopes:
Fresh start in February
By
Imhotep
People born under the Sun signs of Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces are programmed to survive whatever the circumstances. And this year has begun on a promising note for them; indeed Imhotep predicts promotions, among other pleasant surprises, yet to come. At the moment they appear to be doing all they can to avoid confrontations with family, friends and colleagues. For Pisceans such confrontations should not be a problem -- bending over backwards to please others comes naturally. For Capricorns and Aquarians, however, compromise will be no easy task .
The cardinal Earth sign of Capricorn (22 Dec-22 Jan) makes for loyal, stout-hearted people who readily come to the defence of family and friends. Sea Goats will have ample opportunity to show their mettle in February, displaying, aside from such loyalty, a commendable determination to succeed. And succeed they will, unconditionally -- in the last week of January and through early February, at least.
Sea Goats dislike the limelight, favouring behind-the-scenes strategising. They hate to be mired up in any form of publicity, especially when it does not advance their interests directly.
Deep thinkers, they also make natural leaders. Anwar El-Sadat and Gamal Abdel-Nasser are two typical examples. Mao Tse Tung, for his part, personified the Capricornian iron will -- the characteristic, clearheaded resolve to achieve stated objectives. This sometimes turns to ruthlessness -- something to which Joseph Stalin testifies.
With Mohamed Ali in their midst, Sea Goats are natural-born fighters -- perhaps it's the Capricornian fighting spirit that explains why Mel Gibson, a Sea Goat, performed so well in Braveheart Capricornian women too are noted for dogged determination. Some, like Ava Gardner and Marlene Dietrich, are exceptionally beautiful -- something that helps them get their way -- though, as is the case with both stars, it is rarely beauty of a conventional kind.
People born under the fixed Air sign of Aquarius (23 Jan-19 Feb) can be impatient and temperamental. And in this sense the first week of February threatens to test their endurance. Fun-loving and sociable Aquarians cannot bear solitude. And notwithstanding their fierce independence, in the first two weeks of February independence may well reduce to loneliness. Yes, Water Bearers, friends will desert you.
The Water Bearer is a man of uncertain temperament. Happy-go-lucky, by more conscientious people Aquarians are sometimes accused of gross moral turpitude. The late King Farouk of Egypt is a case in point. A risk-taker and a gambler, he lived life to the full. It was his carefree, hedonistic lifestyle that ultimately led to his undoing.
But many Aquarians also have their serious side. The challenge for Aquarians is to channel their raw, creative energy into productive pursuits. Some -- just think of Anton Chekov or Charles Dickens -- are excellent writers. Others revolutionalise the more pedestrian professions. Water Bearers have razor- sharp tongues -- Vanessa Redgrave and Germaine Greer clearly demonstrate this tendencey, so does Virginia Woolf, in her own, different way. An Aquarian heavyweight, Oprah Winfrey is one Water Bearer who does not mince her words.
People born under the mutable Water sign of Pisces (20 Feb-21 Mar) can be taken advantage of by the more calculating and aggressive among us. Beware, tender-hearted Pisceans, February is not a month for taking the soft-spoken philanderer seriously. Piscean women especially, beware of the man who speaks softly of love and marriage -- dash pell-mell from his presence.
Piscean women have a weakness for a certain kind of man -- who can bewitch and control them. Pisceans, except for a few sharks, are loathe to stand sentry or keep watch. Alas, you are urgently advised to guard your emotions in February, my dear Lady Fish.
Feelings often define dreamy Pisceans, but in February the Fishes will be hard-pressed to face reality. Unlike Aquarians, Pisceans are never bothered by detachment from the world. And in this sense every Fish has a lesson to learn this February. They'll benefit from it, no doubt.
There are two types of Piscean women: the Elisabeth Taylors and the Glenda Jacksons. The first group tend to be physically attractive but a little flighty and air-headed. The second may not quite be raving beauties, but they have hearts of gold. The Jackson Fishes have a good head on their shoulder and attract others with a magic combination of wit and tenderness.
Most Piscean men are lovable. Sidney Poitier, Harry Belafonte and Nat King Cole are prime examples. A few are shrewd -- the Spike Lee type. Charming Bruce Willis is typically Piscean. Don't be fooled by his Die Hard bravado -- a true Piscean, he wears his heart on his sleeve.
