AS PART of its 2010 World Cup campaign, Egypt plans to build a paper pyramid alongside those at Giza. The pyramid will comprise of paper messages declaring the global support for Egypt's bid, and is hoped to be the securing link for the 2010 extravaganza.

Minister of Youth and Sports Alieddin Hilal said he expected around 20 million messages of support for the bid to be collected from all over Egypt. They will be arranged into a pyramid, which it is estimated will stand 15 metres (50 feet) high and 12.5 metres (41 feet) wide.

Egypt hopes to be named the first African World Cup host when the decision is announced on 15 May. The competition has narrowed down to a final stretch race between contenders Egypt, Morocco and South Africa, after the joint bid by Libya and Tunisia was rejected by FIFA President Sepp Blatter.

Hilal said the paper pyramid will be unveiled on 30 April near its more famous stone ancestors, the three Pyramids of Giza.
