MADAD, MADAD: The cry of the (Sufi) faithful, calling on the prophets and saints for help, is the title of an exhibition of paintings that opened yesterday at Khan Al-Maghrabi Gallery, celebrating Ramadan. Featuring new work by both George Bahgory and Omar Abdel-Zaher, the exhibition draws on grassroots culture, drawing its inspiration from such traditions as ma'idat al-rahman (table of the Merciful), featured in Abdel-Zaher's painting left, an open-air banquet held at iftar time free of charge for those who cannot afford to eat well.
