Giant death

EGYPT's squash icon Gamal Awad (right) passed away on Friday night after suffering a heart attack. He was 40 years old. Awad won the world amateur squash championship in 1979 in New Zealand. But he will probably be best remembered for playing the longest match in competitive squash history against then reigning world champion Jahangir Khan of Pakistan in the Chichester Festival in England in 1979. The two played for two hours and 46 minutes. They also played the longest set in that match, the first set lasting an hour and 11 minutes. Khan won the match 3-1.

Awad also won the British Amateur Championship in 1977 and 1978.
