Lent to Bremen

Mohamed Zidan

GERMAN champions Werder Bremen have completed the signing of Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan from Danish club FC Midtjylland.

The 23-year-old Zidan, who will be on loan, will replace Greek international forward Angelos Haristeas who was sold to Ajax Amsterdam when the transfer window opened.

Werder sporting director Klaus Allofs said the club would have an option to buy Zidan at the end of the six-month loan period. "Mohamed Zidan is a top player who made a strong impression on us," Allofs said.

Zidan is due to join his new teammates at their training camp on Sunday. "I'm determined to establish myself in Germany," Zidan said of the move to the Bundesliga.

"I've always wanted to play for one of the top teams in Europe and this is my moment."

Zidan is the second Egyptian to sign for Werder. Defender Hani Ramzi played for the club throughout most of the 1990s.
