Itinerary of the month: The Oases-Luxor archaeological tour
If you are a desert fan and also interested in archaeology then this itinerary might be suitable for you as it combines some of the most important oases of Egypt like Bahariya, Farafra and Dakhla along with Luxor in Upper Egypt. This 6day/5night itinerary gives you the chance to tour most of the archaeological sites in the oases, while at the same time, to enjoy the vastness of the desert, with all of its mystery and splendor. To add richness to the itinerary, you could visit Luxor on the last day of the trip to take pleasure from touring its ancient sites.
Day 1: The trip starts by driving over the gravel plains to Bahariya oasis. Check-in and lunch at the hotel. Excursions start in the afternoon to the old village of Bawiti followed by a sunset trip to the Black Desert. Overnight and dinner at the hotel.
Day 2: A visit to the archaeological sites at Bahariya such as the Tombs of Banintu, Meftella Chapels, and the Temple of Alexander the Great. You'll then proceed to the White Desert stopping at the Crystal Mountain with a picnic lunch. In the afternoon there will be an excursion through the protected area of the White Desert. Overnight and dinner at the hotel in Farafra.
Day 3: A visit to the ancient fortress of Farafra and the local museum before proceeding to Dakhla. Arrive at Dakhla and visit Deir Al-Hagar (A temple built in the Roman period and was dedicated to Amun) and then the Islamic town of Qasr Dakhla. Overnight and dinner at the hotel.
Days 4-5: Proceed the trip to Luxor via Kharga, allowing for two days to explore the ancient sites around Kharga such as Bagawat Necropolis, Hibis Temple, Qasr Zayan, Qasr Ghuwita and the Temple of Dush.
Day 6: Drive to Luxor via the desert road and explore its ancient sites, or return to Cairo via Assiut.
