"Video is a medium with varied modes of display, but I still prefer single-channel because artists are often so preoccupied with inventing an original display that they neglect the video itself," says Akram Zaatari, whose work, including This Day (2003), will be screened at the American University in Cairo's Falaki Theatre, where fellow Lebanese filmmaker Mohamed Soueid will also be presenting his works. The shows will alternately be available for viewing at the Townhouse Gallery, from Tuesday 22 to Saturday 26 March. Zaatari and Soueid will discuss their films with the public as they head a round-table discussion on "Independent Filmmaking in the Middle East" on Friday 25, 3pm-5pm, at AUC's Falaki Theatre.
