Holiday FAQs

Q: I am going to be travelling to Egypt on a tight budget and I have thought of an itinerary.

I need to know how to get from Luxor to Hurghada with the cheapest cost. Then I want to catch the hydrofoil from Hurghada to Sharm El-Sheikh from where I would catch a bus or some other cheap means of transport to Dahab. Then I want to know how much it costs to go from Dahab to St Catherine so that I can see the sunrise at Mount Sinai. I also need to find what the cheapest accommodation at St Catherine is.

Do you have any suggestions?

Allan

A: It's no problem arranging your itinerary. To start off from Luxor to Hurghada, you'll be taking the minibus service from the main bus station for about LE150. Then from Hurghada, the hydrofoil service to Sharm El-Sheikh costs LE90. You can reserve it from any hotel you'll be staying at in Hurghada.

From Sharm El-Sheikh, the SuperJet and East Delta bus companies provide hourly trips to Dahab for LE20. Some buses leave at half-hour intervals. The trip takes about 75 minutes.

In Dahab, there are many excursions to St Catherine. With prices ranging from $25-40, you can go by jeep or take part of the journey by camel, horse or quadrunner. In St Catherine, there is the Zeitouna Camp (+2 069 347 1409) where you can get a single room for $40. And for almost the same price, you can check in at Morgan Land Village (+2 069 347 0331).
