PRESIDENT Hosni Mubarak -- the ruling National Democratic Party candidate -- arrived at the Heliopolis Girls School at 8:15 am, accompanied by Mrs Suzanne Mubarak and their youngest son, Gamal, head of the National Democratic Party's Policies Committee. Inside the polling station, Mubarak and his family checked their names were registered and dipped their fingers in indelible ink to indicate that they voted.

On their way out, Mubarak waved at the hundreds of supporters who had gathered around the polling station to greet him. As he walked away, heading to the operation room of his party campaign located in Heliopolis, he smiled to chants of slogans backing his presidential plan.

Unlike other presidential candidates, Mubarak did not inspect polling stations in Cairo; however, he monitored the election's progress from NDP headquarters and discussed his standing with party officials.
