Two there

Fahmi; Djizmedjian

THOUGH the Egyptian national team will not be making an appearance at the World Cup in Germany, two Egyptians will be present at the one-month event as FIFA delegates.

Mustafa Fahmi, general secretary of the African federation (CAF) and Viken Djizmedjian, planning and media director of the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations, are among the FIFA delegation for the Germany 2006 World Cup.

This is the pair's fourth consecutive World Cup appearance following the 1994, 1998 and 2002 championships. Their presence bolsters the case that Egypt possesses competent administrative cadres who have the know-how and expertise to be part of the organising committee of one of the world's major sports event.

Fahmi is the general coordinator of the Gelsenkirchen group while Viken will be the media director of the Stuttgart venue. The two men flew to Germany last Tuesday to join the FIFA delegation.

In each city, FIFA is represented by a member of its executive committee, a venue director, general coordinator, media director, security officer, referees inspector, technical study reporter, doping control doctor and a protocol officer.

FIFA selects the members of its organising personnel from around the world based on their expertise, plus administrative and organisational skills.

In addition to Fahmi and Viken, Egyptian Hani Abu Rida will be in Germany in his capacity as CAF executive committee and FIFA appeals committee member. Hosni Abdel-Rahman, a member of the CAF and FIFA medical committee, will also be in Germany.
