![]() I take off my hat to the hero of the pitch. A strong candidate for African Footballer of the Year, Ahli's player par excellence Mohamed Abu Treika has had a super year, kicking off at the start of 2006, when he scored the goal that gave Egypt the African Cup of Nations. At the end of the year his stunning, sensational strike deep into injury time in the African Champions League final against Sfaxien of Tunisia sent the squad to the World Club Championship in Tokyo. His heroics continued in Japan where his picture-perfect free kick goal insured Ahli's win against Auckland City of New Zealand. We are proud of our very own Abu Treika. I illustrated him delighted with his performance, smiling from ear to ear. His arms outstretched in sheer joy and his legs raring to play ball. parent page (14 - 20 December 2006, issue #824) |
