Tzipi Livni, the scheming Israeli foreign minister -- also Israel's prospective "Iron Lady" -- is in the middle of a muddle. Hers is a most difficult task. She is obliged to improve Israel's image and pursue apartheid policies against the Palestinians. She also has designs to become Israel's next prime minister. But given the treacherous nature of Israeli politics, it is not clear if her innermost desires will be granted. Livni, the former Mossad spy and daughter of a Polish-born former Zionist Irgun member will have a lasting impact on Israeli politics.
