 The Romanian script-writer Cristan Munglu, winner of the Cannes Festival's Palme d'Or this year, has eyes like lenses. They are his means to seeing, with incredible clarity, a whole period of Romanian history, a period during which Romania was under dictatorial rule. I've given him the head of a child, to underline the creative perspective from which he looks on all this, and further emphasised the intelligent roundness of his face. parent page (31 May - 6 June 2007, issue #847) |
