![]() In one of the most deadly insurgent strikes since the US invasion of Iraq, at least 200 people were killed and 200 injured in bombings, involving a fuel tanker and three cars, aimed at the Kurdish Yazidi sect in northern Iraq on 14 August. Because the Americans are concentrating on their military effort in the capital, insurgents are moving into new areas where they can attack easier targets. Tensions between the Yazidi sect and local Muslims have grown since a Yazidi girl was reportedly stoned by her community in April for converting to Islam.
