Fair and tasty
As Egyptians ready themselves for celebrating the Eid, fish markets all over the country are flourishing. In Ramadan, Muslims seldom eat fish, fearing it will intensify thirst during the fast -- a belief they are slowly giving up -- something to which the Mounib fish market bore ample testimony in the last two weeks of Ramadan, which saw a surge in fish sales. This was no doubt aided and abetted by the 20 per cent rise in meat prices, whereas the price of fish could go as low as LE3 a kilogramme, though the highest could go up to LE45. A few hours before Iftar, the market is busy with buyers flocking to the market in search of a bargain. According to one of the mo'alems, Bream and the Nile perch at LE19 per kilogramme have been the most attractive options.
