AFICS-Egypt regrets to announce the decease of veteran United Nations official, Mr. Sayed Abbas Cheddid on 2 March 2008. Mr. Cheddid was 94 years old having built his international and distinguished career in the information and communication sector at UN New York and as Director of the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Cote d'Ivoire, Egypt and Rumania. Before joining the UN, Mr. Cheddid was political commentator in Egypt. He is survived by his daughter Magda Cheddid.
AFICS-Egypt also regrets to announce the passing away of Dr. Samir Hassan Kamel on 14 March 2008. Dr. Kamel was former Consultant of Anesthesia at the Ibn Sinai Hospital, Kuwait where he served for 36 years. He was also a distinguished pianist. Dr. Kamel was the beloved husband of Dr. Laila Anwar El Hagin, his lifetime wife and partner who is former consultant at the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD), in Kuwait. Dr. Kamel is also survived by his daughter, Dr. Hania Kamel, Development Consultant in London, UK, and his son, Sherif Kamel, geologist and Director of Environment and Safety Department at the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Co., Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Samir Kamel will be sorely missed by his numerous friends and all who came his way, not only because of his special professional qualities, but for his renowned kindness and gentleness, hard to match.
