More blowback

AT LEAST one car bomb targeting the US Embassy in the Yemeni capital Sanaa blew up at the front gate of the compound on Wednesday, killing 10 to 16 people. According to Al-Jazeera, three guards were killed and another three were injured. Six of the attackers in addition to four civilians, including one Indian, were killed. The explosion was followed by heavy gunfire that lasted around 10 minutes. A group calling itself Islamic Jihad in Yemen claimed responsibility for the attack and threatened similar strikes against the British, Saudi and United Arab Emirates missions in Sanaa.

Yemen has been the scene of repeated Al-Qaeda attacks in recent years. In 2000 the US warship USS Cole was attacked at the port of Aden killing 17 American sailors. Yesterday's explosion is the fourth against American targets in Sanaa this year.
