Wigan sign Mido

Mido

WIGAN have signed Mido from Middlesbrough on loan until the end of the season. The 25-year-old Egyptian striker's move will see him link up with his international partner Amr Zaki.

"Mido brings vast experience to the table," manager Steve Bruce told Wigan's official website. "He has a good Premier League pedigree having scored goals at Tottenham and Middlesbrough, and he has also played for some huge European clubs, where he gained Champions League and UEFA Cup experience.

"He is still a relatively young man with potentially his best years ahead of him and hopefully he can produce a bit of magic for us during the rest of the season."

Mido began his career in Zamalek, and also played at Ajax, Celta Vigo, Marseille and Roma before joining Tottenham four seasons ago. He has scored 19 goals in 48 appearances for Egypt.

"Wigan are a club moving in the right direction, who play great football and their league position is no fluke," Mido said. "I'm really looking forward to teaming up with some excellent players. When a man like Steve Bruce, who has achieved so much in the game, says he wants you, you have to take up opportunities like that.

"I'm also really pleased to be teaming up with Zaki. He is a top player and a good friend and it always helps when there are familiar faces when you join a new club. Now I just want to show the Wigan public what I am all about and play football."

Zaki said he was happy for Mido for joining the Latics' squad. "Mido's vast experience in the Premiership as well as his great physical and technical abilities will help Wigan in the second half of the season."

The Egyptian duo will be hoping to forge a successful partnership in Wigan's frontline. The departure of Emile Heskey to Aston Villa is likely to give an opportunity to Mido to play on a regular basis.

Mido scored four goals for Middlesbrough while Zaki's stunning impact in his first Premiership season saw him notch 10 goals to lie third in the scorers' chart

Wigan are currently seventh in the Premiership.
