Against a backdrop of mounting political tension over summer-scheduled parliamentary elections, Lebanese majority leader Saad Al-Hariri arrived in Cairo Tuesday for talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

Al-Hariri's visit to Cairo came less than two days after telephone consultations held by Lebanese majority Prime Minister Fouad Al-Siniora and hours ahead of a visit by Lebanese Defence Minister Elias Al-Mor that took place Wednesday.

Following talks with Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit, also Tuesday, Al-Hariri told reporters that he wishes to have Arab monitors oversee Lebanese parliamentary elections due in June.

For his part, Al-Mor said that Mubarak promised him Egypt's "unlimited" support for the Lebanese army.
