Culling time

A ministerial meeting headed by President Hosni Mubarak on Wednesday decided the immediate culling of 350,000 pigs in Egypt. Parliament on Tuesday had urgently recommended the culling as a precautionary measure to reduce the possibility of swine flu reaching Egypt. There were calls to compensate pig owners to minimise their losses and have them cooperate more fully. A breakout of swine flu in Mexico last week has killed at least 150 people, all in Mexico, and caused panic in many parts of the world.
