Friendly Canada

Re 'Promised lands' (15-21 October, Al-Ahram Weekly ) "Canada is so friendly that there was no need to convince or explain anything to anyone," gushed Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman in July. Evidently Lieberman is quite right, as our Canadian government's unquestioning support for Israeli racist policies continues regardless of the brutality and illegality of these policies.

Add to that, the infamy, called Canada Park, a war crime built with Canadian tax-deductible dollars on the ruins of the three Palestinian villages of Imwas [Emmaus], Yalu and Beit Nuba [my own hometown]. These three villages were occupied, without a shot being fired, in the war waged by Israel in June 1967, and systematically dynamited and bulldozed, on the direct orders of Yitzhak Rabin, the then chief of staff of the Israeli army. Their over 10,000 innocent inhabitants were expelled.

Canadian complicity in this war crime adds a dark stain on Canada's name, that should be the concern of every Canadian.
