To the bitter end
Sir-- Let's keep supporting Israel until all the Muslims and most of the rest of the world simply refuse to purchase anything with an American made label. Then we can have an economic Armageddon right here at home.
It is amazing how Americans will support Israel even if it means the end of America. The American aid we are sending to Pakistani flood victims is being refused because it has the USA flag on the packaging.
People hate us so much they would rather starve than take our aid.
You think they are going to purchase stuff from us when they do have some cash?

Sir-- Re 'Bolstering the resistance axis' (14-20 October, Al-Ahram Weekly ) Jews are offended? They kill Palestinians daily, steal Palestinian land and call them settlements. The Iranian president simply pays a visit and they treat it like murder. Something that only happens to the Palestinians.
The US says Ahmadinejad's visit to Lebanon is "provocative". What would you expect? The US started the hostilities with Iran through economic sanctions and would do more if it can.
This trip to Lebanon could be a part of the responses for those hostilities.

Like Arafat
Sir-- I find Abbas's disillusionment the same as Arafat before he died.
The Palestine Liberation Organisation which lacks legitimacy must be reformulated for the emergence of better and more capable negotiators from the Palestinian side.
Future speeches in Cairo or other Muslim Arab capitals by US presidents will no longer be taken seriously after Obama's eminent failure to allow an independent state of Palestine.

The real boss
Sir-- Re 'Bolstering the resistance axis' (14-20 October, Al-Ahram Weekly ) Ahmadinejad has got this colonial relationship backwards. Israel is the colonial power and America is the colony.

Working for both
Sir-- Re 'Staring down the generals' (13-20 October, Al-Ahram Weekly ), the author writes, "Obama is neither a friend nor an enemy of Israel". He is an employee of the same. Just another White House facelift to please the Jewish lobby and fool the Americans.

Cuban missile reaction
Sir-- Israel is just as alarmed over Iran's nuclear programme as the US was when we discovered Cuba was gearing up for nuclear missiles years ago. Remember how we reacted to that?

Picture perfect
Sir-- Re 'Egypt's history in photographs' (30 September-6 October, Al-Ahram Weekly ) very interesting article. What a treasure! I grew up in Egypt in the 1950s and early 1960s when my father worked with the FAO of the United Nations and I love the historical aspect of Egypt as I feel it is part of my heritage. I wish a picture book of the original photographs of Mohamed El-Ghazouli would be published and a sample of his pictures scanned and downloaded to the Internet.
